/Our Territory - The Rosary church

The church of "Rosario", i.e. the parish of the Incoronata located in Capo Moschiano, was the second parish of the town together with the other of S. Bartolomeo. As can be deduced from the ecclesiastical registers existing since 1553, it is called "Parrocchialis ecclesiae S. Mariae Incoronatae" on which the rural church of S. Michele, which was greatly damaged by the 1980 earthquake, depended.

Although the two parishes had very specific boundaries of jurisdictions during the years some controversy arose between the two parish priests for reasons of trespassing as can be seen from curial documents where we read that the parish priest of S. Bartolomeo explains to the Bishop of Nola how the parish priest of Incoronata exercises acts of jurisdiction in the territory of the cure of St. Bartholomew. The foundation of this church with the adjoining confraternity of the Rosary is unknown due to its antiquity.

In this church the pulpit of the master carpenter Gaspare Dalia made in 1935 is preserved. On it we can admire a nice piece of wood mosaic work.

Aesthetically pleasing is the stained glass window on the pediment of the church depicting the Madonna del Rosario with Child, two brothers and the church with the bell tower: work by the Neapolitan artist Virgilio carried out in 1982, commissioned by Monsignor Giuseppe Manfredi, parish priest of the time.

An ancient slate slab with the identical image of the Madonna painted by Crispo di Cicciano, which in the past was walled in on the façade of the Church, is still preserved in the sacristy of the church. This is, in part, what Moschiano possesses, a village of ancient customs, civilization and culture.

Landscapes, in urban expansion in the southern area along the "Variante" opened in the seventies of the last century. This work proved to be very useful for traffic and for the new appearance given to Moschiano with an area facing the midday sun.
